WELCOME TO MAGIC CARPET 2013

We are so excited to announce our plans for Magic Carpet 2013.  These plans have not been finalized as it is too early to book many of these places and some have not even opened for the season,  but this is what we anticipate for  2013.

Week 1   CARIBBEAN ISLANDS 3 (JULY 10-12 Please note that this week only we are in session Wednesday, Thursday and Friday)

Our season opens with our third adventure in the Caribbean Islands - everyone’s favorite week!  We plan to board a Schooner in Boston Harbor where we will learn to navigate in these interesting sloops as we cruise the Boston waterways.  Plans also include a Super Duck Tour which explores the city and then splashes into Boston Harbor,  a 3D IMAX movie, The Last Reef, and a day at a water park, probably Coco Keys, and perhaps an Aquatic Exploration Marine Life Cruise to pull up specimens from below the surface of the ocean.   As a special treat we will tour the Taza Chocolate Factory-with lots of samples.  This week is always a sellout and we are have limited numbers due to Coast Guard regulations on boats, so please get your registration in early if your child wants to attend.

Week 2   ENGLAND (JULY 16-18)  Join us for a trip to the Boott Cotton Mills  at the Lowell  National Historical Park.  We will relive the experiences of the immigrants who came from the British Isles to work in our factories.  We will weave cloth, work on the assembly line, role play the life of an immigrant and design and build a canal system.  We will travel by trolley throughout the mill and museum area and enjoy a tour on a canal boat to learn how the river and canals were used for transportation and power, and how to negotiate the locks.  In the spirit of the London Olympics, our second day will include a visit to Skyzone, an indoor Trampoline Park which includes an endless sea of trampolines all connected so that kids can literally soar and bounce off the walls!  We will visit the Tea Party Museum where the kids can experience the Boston Tea Party by throwing tea overboard as the colonists did, followed by an authentic Afternoon Tea  at either the Bristol Lounge in the Four Seasons Hotel, The Ritz Boston or the Boston Harbor Hotel.

Week 3  JAPAN (JULY 23-25)  Asian culture is always fascinating and great fun for the kids, so this year we plan to participate in an authentic Tea Ceremony at the Kaji Aso Studio in Boston where we will also try Japanese calligraphy and origami.  We are hoping to team up with a group from Showa Boston (a school for Japanese children) to explore their culture followed by a sushi making class at Fins, a Japanese restaurant in Beacon Hill where we will enjoy a traditional Japanese lunch.  Plans include the Newport Mansions where we will experience the Japanese Zen Gardens at Blithewold Mansion.  We will enter through the Moon Gate and learn about the Japanese Rock Garden and the Great Bamboo Grove.  Potential plans include The Breakers and/or Marble House and The Elms to experience the culture of the Gilded Age.  While we are in Newport we will also enjoy the Green Animals Topiary Garden.  This week will include a visit to the Museum of Fine Arts where we will experience the Art of Asia including Japanese painting, prints, metalwork and the Buddha Room followed by a studio class with the kids’ favorite artist/teacher at the museum, Jake Fried, who will help the students to recreate some of the art we have seen.

Week 4  AFRICA (JULY 30-AUGUST 1)  This week we will spend a day at the Roger Williams Zoo where we will be taken on safari as we encounter zebras, wildebeest and towering Masai giraffes in the African Exhibit.  We will see the African Elephants bathing in their pool or cooling under a waterfall, and then enjoy a picnic lunch on the zoo grounds.    Plans include a 3D IMAX movie, Africa-The Serengeti, at the Omni Theater and we will return to the Museum of Fine Arts to view African Art (including masks, sculpture and woodcarvings) followed by a studio class where we will attempt to duplicate some of what we have seen with Jake Fried.  We also plan to take a tour of the Boston Globe printing plant.

We will travel by school bus when necessary and we will use public transportation (Ferry to Boston) as much as possible as this is the kids’ favorite!  Children will provide their own lunches and snacks except on a few days where lunch is included.

Days and times each week are TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY from 8-3 (except the first week-see note above).  Tuition (including all expenses) remains the same at $225. per child per week.

You may register for any number of weeks you choose.  Children who attend all 4 weeks will pay a reduced tuition rate of $850 for the entire program.  Siblings who attend the same weeks will pay a reduced rate of $200. per week for all children after the first.

Please return this registration form to Holy Family School to the attention of Joan Cahalane and include a check for $50. per child made payable to Holy Family School to hold your child’s place.  Registration forms and deposits should be returned by April 30.  Final payment for all weeks is due by June 1.

Please detach this form and return it to Holy Family School with your check as soon as possible-spaces fill quickly.
